Difficulty Levels
Definitions of KnitFree’s difficulty levels for knitting patterns. Based on the standard skill levels for knitting of The Craft Yarn Council of America.
Beginner
Patterns suitable for first-time knitters that use basic knit and purl stitches with minimal shaping.
Easy
Patterns that use basic stitches and repetitive stitch patterns, simple color changes, simple shaping and simple finishing.
Intermediate
Patterns that use a variety of stitches - such as basic cables and lace or simple intarsia - mid-level shaping, and mid-level finishing. Double point needles and knitting in the round are Intermediate level techniques. Otherwise Easy patterns for which crochet is required are also classed Intermediate.
Advanced
Patterns that use advanced techniques and stitches - such as short rows, fair isle, more intricate intarsia, cables, lace patterns - and numerous color changes. Anything that exceeds the scope of Intermediate is an Advanced pattern.
